LIFE & WELL-BEING COACHING
REBIRTH YOUR NEW BEGINNING
Elderwood Grove Life & Well-being Coaching helps clients identify their goals and develop strategies to achieve them. We can help you with a variety of areas of your life. Elderwood Grove Life and Well-being Coaches often use questioning techniques to help you identify your goals, recognize your current circumstances, consider your options, and choose actions. Elderwood Grove Life & Well-being Coaches can help you boost your self-confidence and self-awareness, build healthier and more reliable decision-making abilities, find new ways to take your determined actions toward key objectives and help you maximize your potential. Our approach is client-centered, multiculturally sensitive, humanistic, motivational, strength-based, and curious, and we aim to understand how you view things in your life. We will probably ask: What has worked before? What didn’t work before? What hasn’t been tried yet?
Life coaches are different from therapists, counselors, mentors, and consultants. Life coaches are not qualified to provide treatment for mental health conditions. Coaching focuses on the present and how to achieve future goals, and on normal psychological, social, and contextual factors, not pathology and diagnosis. What is a common concern when seeing a therapist as opposed to seeing a coach is that coaches avoid creating a power differential. While coaching and psychotherapy are different, they can be complementary.
We work with Individuals, Couples, and “Family” Members 18 years old and older in person or on Zoom.
ABOUT US
ABOUT US: The “wellness” concept [is] the idea that health care programs should be actively involved in the advancement of wellness, which focuses on a dynamic state of physical, mental, and social well-being, rather than merely concerned with the treatment and prevention of illness. Wellness is viewed as the result of four key factors over which an individual has some control: human biology, environment, health care organization, and lifestyle.” “The wellness concept also incorporates well-being, which is defined as “a state of happiness, contentment, low levels of distress, overall good physical and mental health and outlook, or good quality of life.” (American Psychological Association, 2007, p. 996). In recent years, the term “wellness” has been a more active process focusing on lifestyle choices and preventive measures to improve overall health. Wellness is presently and often associated with physical health, such as diet and exercise while well-being remains a much broader concept that includes physical, mental, and emotional health, subjective perceptions of happiness, satisfaction, and fulfillment. Well-being also considers spiritual contentment and other aspects of life, such as workplace and financial well-being. In earlier writings, Sweeney, Witmer, and Myers proposed a holistic model of wellness and prevention over the life span based on the work of these authors and others who studied characteristics of healthy people called the Wheel of Wellness (Sweeney &Witmer, 1991; Witmer &Sweeney, 1992; Witmer, Sweeney, &Myers, 1998). Their definition of wellness includes the optimum that everyone is capable of achieving the state of health and well-being, which incorporates many theoretical concepts from multiple disciplines. The results of research as well as theoretical perspectives from personality, social, clinical, health, and developmental psychology were foundations for the model, as were stress management, behavioral medicine, psychoneuroimmunology, ecology, and contextualism. The model is divided into five life tasks and depicted in a wheel with spokes that are interrelated and interconnected. These five tasks are Spirituality, Self-Regulation or Self-Direction, Love, Friendship, Work, and Leisure in which one’s spirituality is the hub or the core of the wheel itself from which all the other life tasks are secondary. Without our spirituality, our lives will stagnate without purpose and individual thriving and resilience greatly decrease. The life task of work was subdivided into the two tasks of work and leisure. The life task of self-regulation or self-direction is divided into 12 subtasks sense of worth, sense of control, realistic beliefs, emotional awareness and coping, problem-solving and creativity, sense of humor, nutrition, exercise, self-care, stress management, gender identity, and cultural identity.
Elderwood Grove Life and Wellbeing Coaching is allied with LGBTQ-plus communities [including HIV / AIDS Allied, Intersex Allied, Non-Binary Allied, Queer Allied], Restorative Justice, Reparative Justice, Racial and Indigenous Justice Allied, Non-monogamy Relationships and Lifestyles Allied, Kink Allied, Burning Man Community Allied, and more.
Note: Restorative justice emphasizes repairing the harm caused or revealed by criminal behavior. It is best accomplished through cooperative processes that include all stakeholders. Restorative justice is different from contemporary criminal justice in several ways. First, it views criminal acts more comprehensively -- rather than defining crime as simply lawbreaking, it recognizes that offenders harm victims, communities, as well as themselves. Second, it involves more parties in responding to crime -- rather than giving key roles only to the government and the offender, it includes victims and communities as well. Finally, it measures success differently -- rather than measuring how much punishment is inflicted, it measures how much harm is repaired or prevented. By working with those they have offended, offenders understand how their actions have affected those impacted. In a similar vein, the term “reparative justice” refers specifically to a framework in which we can address long-standing abuses and institutionalized policies that have impacted entire communities. Drawing its name from the word “repair,” this form of justice seeks to restore not just individuals but whole groups of people. The focus in reparative justice is on the damage done by centuries of history that have negatively impacted our fellow Americans, from the terrors of slavery and colonization to the modern struggles against mass incarceration and institutionalized racism. While some of these injuries can never be fully healed, the communities that still suffer under them can be made whole to work toward true equality, inclusivity, and justice. Healing the injustices of the past to build toward a more equal future lies at the heart of reparative justice. [https://www.fairfightinitiative.org/reparative-justice/].
Our services
Self-Regulation or Self-Direction Coaching: Self-direction is how an individual regulates, disciplines, and directs the self in daily activities and pursuit of long-range goals (Hafen, Franksen, Karren, & Hooker, 1992; Pelletier, 1994). It refers to a sense of mindfulness and intentionality in meeting the major tasks of life. The patterns of behavior and methods of adjustment to life that make self-direction are sometimes referred to as “positive personality traits” that give one a stress-resistant personality (Perk & Silver). The life task of self-regulation or self-direction is divided into 12 subtasks: the sense of worth, the sense of control, having realistic beliefs, possessing the skills of emotional awareness and coping, the ability to solve problems and creativity, having a sense of humor, gender identity, sexual identity and health, cultural identity, and understanding and practicing good nutrition, exercise, self-care, and stress management. Some examples of coaching goals for Self-Regulation and Self Direction could be Body Positivity, Sex Positivity, Coping Skills, Managing Cognitive Distortions, Improving Self-Esteem, Grief and Bereavement Management, Balancing the Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine Within, Breaking a Bad Habit, Women’s Empowerment Coaching, Men’s Empowerment Coaching, Toxic Masculinity, and Toxic Femininity.
Relational Coaching: Love, Friendship, Relationship, and Intimacy Coaching. Empathy, cooperation, and altruism are all manifestations of social interest. Those who regularly devote time to helping others are as likely to experience health benefits as those who exercise and meditate (Luks, 1992). Social support, the degree to which a person's basic social needs are met through interaction with others (Cohen & Syme, 1985), is positively correlated with both physical and emotional health (Ulione, 1996) and provides a buffer against stress (Dalgard, Bjork, & Tambs, 1995). The friendship life task incorporates all of one's social relationships that involve connections with others, preferably individually and in the community. Adler (1927/1954) considered social interest as innate to human nature, noting that we are all born with the capacity and the need to be connected. In 1994, Zauszniewski explained Adler's concept of social interest as a "health-seeking mechanism which describes one's innate potential for showing concern for and valuing others" (p. 160). Research shows that friendships enhance self-esteem (D. Cramer, 1994) and that friendship satisfaction is among the strongest predictors of positive self-esteem (Diener & Diener, 1995; Lightsey, 1996). Relationships formed based on a sustained, long-term, mutual commitment and involve intimacy constitute the life task of love. Adult intimacy in general has many definitions and connotations. In a psychological context and meaning, “intimacy is the capacity to engage in a supportive, affectionate relationship without losing one’s sense of self. It is also in the context of the ability in a relationship to share each other’s views and feelings without the fear of the relationship ending and allowing a degree of independence without feeling threatened” (Boyd & Bee, 2009, p. 405). Some examples of Relational Coaching are Marital and Premarital Or Life Partner and Pre-life Partner Coaching, Polyamory, LGBTQ plus, Alternative Lifestyles, Separation, Divorce, and Infidelity.
Spirituality Coaching: Spirituality is “an awareness of a being or force that transcends the material aspects of life and gives a deep sense of wholeness or connectedness to the universe.” Spirituality is conceptualized as the core characteristic of healthy people (Seaward, 1995) and the source of all other dimensions of wellness (Chandler, Holder, & Kolander, 1992). Religiosity is a much narrower concept that refers to institutional beliefs and behaviors that are a part of the broader concept of spirituality (Ingersoll, 1994). Religiosity is a public matter, often expressed in group religious participation, whereas spirituality is a private issue that may or may not be expressed publicly (Hinterkopf, 1994). Spiritual wellness is connecting to your inner and outer worlds to support you in living your values and purpose. Positive signs of spiritual wellness include Developing a purpose in life, Having the ability to spend reflective time alone, Taking time to reflect on the meaning of events in life, Having a clear sense of right and wrong, and acting accordingly, Having the ability to explain why you believe what you believe, Caring and acting for the welfare of others and the environment, and Being able to practice forgiveness and compassion in life. Exploring Spiritual Wellness: Common questions that align with checking your spiritual wellness to ask yourself are: Do you allow yourself time alone? Do you pray or meditate? Do you reach out to a higher power? Do you think about the meaning of life? Do you take walks in nature? Do you appreciate the transformation of each season? Do you pause to remind yourself that life isn’t all about you? Do you put down your phone to just be? Do you practice activities that allow you to slow down? Spiritual wellness may not be something that you think much of, yet its impact on your life is unavoidable. The basis of spirituality is discovering a sense of meaningfulness in your life and coming to know that you have a purpose to fulfill. Many factors play a part in defining spirituality - religious faith, beliefs, values, ethics, principles, and morals, and those goals of what type of person you want to be. Some gain spirituality by growing in their relationships with others, or through being at peace with nature. Spirituality allows us to find the inner calm and peace needed to get through whatever life brings, no matter what one's beliefs are or where they may be on your spiritual journey. The human spirit is often the most neglected aspect of ourselves. Just as we exercise to condition our bodies, a healthy spirit is nurtured by purposeful practice. The spirit is the aspect of ourselves that can carry us through anything. If we take care of our spirit, we can experience a sense of peace and purpose even when life deals us a severe blow. A strong spirit helps us to develop resilience, survive, and thrive with grace, even in the face of great difficulty. Common Activities for Developing and Practicing Personal Spirituality include Yoga, Mandalas, Labyrinths, and Meditation. Meditation is an experience of relaxing the body, quieting the mind, and awakening the spirit. Meditation encourages a deepening of consciousness or awareness and facilitates a deeper understanding of self and others. We will hopefully soon be able to provide individual meditation, group guided meditation, and self-paced practice guided meditation services.
Earth-Based and Nature Worship Facilitations: Nature worship also called naturism is any of a variety of religious, spiritual, and devotional practices that focus on the worship of the nature spirits considered to be behind the natural phenomena visible throughout nature. There is an array of groups and beliefs that fall under earth religion, such as paganism, which is a polytheistic, nature-based religion, Wicca, animism, pantheism, panentheism, deism, Taoism, totemism, Hinduism, shamanism, some theism. For example, Paganism posits that all living entities (plants, animals, and humans) possess a spirit; Wicca holds the concept of an earth mother goddess and practices ritual magic; and Druidism equates divinity with the natural world. Nature worship is often considered a primitive source of modern religious beliefs; however, according to the Southern Poverty Law website, these belief systems and spiritual activities are the fastest-growing “religion” in the United States. Common to most forms of nature worship is a spiritual focus on the individual's connection and influence on some aspects of the natural world and reverence towards it. Earth-based or nature worship often involves activities like connecting with natural elements like trees, water, and mountains, celebrating seasonal changes, performing rituals outdoors, honoring animal spirits, observing natural cycles, and actively participating in environmental stewardship, all with the belief that the Earth is a living, sacred entity and humans are part of that interconnected web of life. Services that include Earth-Based and Nature Worship Facilitations included but not limited to are Belly Blessing, Saining, or Namings; Passage into Maidenhood or Masterhood, Consecrations, and Dedications; Preparing for an Initiation; Understanding the Great Rite; understanding the Feast or Libation in ceremony; Restitution, Restorative Justice, and Reparative Justice; Ordination Preparation; Weddings, Handfastings, and Handpartings; Passing Through the Veil (funeral) Rites; Different types of Divinations for Coaching Purposes; House Clearings and Home Blessing Rituals; and so forth.
MEET THE TEAM
JENNIFER COX
Hello! To get to know me more I’m sure knowing more about me will help you to decide if I am a good fit for you and me to work together in a client-coach capacity. I have worked as a Qualified Mental Health Professional-Community Support Specialist, a Security Officer at Central Management Services (CSM) of the State of Illinois, an UL Certified Operator & Emergency Dispatcher, and I’ve Co-owned and Co-operated Two Successful Home-Based Businesses to name a few. As a Qualified Mental Health Professional [QMHP]-Community Support Specialist [CCS], I assisted clients in identifying their strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences regarding substance abuse and mental illness and participating in the development of a Wellness [treatment or intervention] Plan. I provided services from a holistic perspective, incorporating coaching surrounding the Eight Dimensions of Wellness, with attention to each wellness domain. As a QMHP-CSS, I also supported clients in completing their goals identified on Wellness Plans reviewing the WP with the client as required and as needed for updating goals and objectives as items are achieved, or as the client’s goals change.
The mental health field was not what I hoped it could be as a person “who wanted to help people find a better life.” What I discovered was that the insurance companies and other third-party payment vendors run the business from having to diagnose clients with mental conditions to get paid to how many sessions clients could be met with to be considered “healed.” Most mental health professional organizations on the state level are highly competitive and politically minded. In my experience, it’s not what you know but who you know to become a licensed mental health professional. After having 3 trips to the exam office, not being allowed my full four hours of testing twice, and paying over $360 every time I took the test proved it in my mind. I am transitioning from a mental health career to life coaching and waiting for the certified neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) coaching program at Symbiosis Coaching to begin on December 16, 2024, to become International Coaching Federation certified, which is the gold standard in the professional life coach industry.
I hold a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy/Counseling, with a Summa Cum Laude designation (GPA of 3.988), a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (GPA of 3.8), and an Associate in Applied Science in Business Management & Certificate of Completion in Supervisory Management. I am a lifetime Member of the Delta Kappa, which means that I’m a lifetime member of the International Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society, which serves to further and complement the work being done by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Family Therapy Academy, and the International Family Therapy Association. I was nominated for the prestigious National Society of Leadership and Success in 2020, which is the largest collegiate leadership honor society in the United States.
I have been practicing Paganism, which means nature-based worship, since 1998, and through many past-life regressions, I was a Celtic Witch in many past lifetimes. My path converges with traditional Celtic and Nordic Witchcraft, Druidic, and Shamanic traditions. I am an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church, High Priestess of the Clan of the Elderwood Grove, in the Bardic Grade of the internationally known Order of the Bards Ovates and Druids located in Sussex, England, and a Priestess of Dynion Mwyn. I am studying the practice of Nordic Witchcraft called the Vǫlur as a Seiðr. I am also an intuitive healer and can relieve/draw out pain (emotional, physical, or astral), and I am certified in Usui Reiki Ryoho traditions I & II. I also divine with animal spirit tarot cards.
I started studying with The Dynion Mwyn with Lord Rhuddlwm Gawr and the Church of Y Tylwyth Teg with Lady Cerridwen in 2006. Both Groves are Welsh Faery Witchcraft Traditions, located in Northern Georgia (USA) and both groves were once a part of the Tribe of the Dynion Mwyn of Wales. Through the meeting and lasting ties with Lady Caru and Lord Ysbrid Blaidd in 2018, I was initiated under the Grove of the Oak and Moon, Clan of Dynion Mwyn with all the rights and the responsibility of the Priestesshood of the Dynion Mwyn.
I associate my practice with a healer who hopes to collaborate with clients in re-defining and re-finding strengths to help recalibrate mind, body, and spirit. As a Spiritual healer, I believe that the therapeutic effect results from channeling healing “energy” from nature to help clients heal themselves by feeling happier and more connected with nature because we are nature and a part of nature at the same time. I arm myself with a logical mind, that is endowed with qualities of genuineness, empathy, and unconditional acceptance with a firm and reliable grasp on ethical values as evidenced through trustworthiness and diligence.
I am a part of the sex-positive movement, the LGBTQ+ community, the ethical non-monogamy community, which includes polyamory, and the burner (Burning Man) community, as well as many other interests that I advocate.
I offer individual sessions, couples' or partners' sessions, and family members who are 18 years old and older sessions. My email is jennifer@elderwoodgrovellc.org and my phone number is 636-344-9407. My Business Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm. NEAL COX, Certified Life Coach specializing in Wellness and Men’s Empowerment.
Hello, my name is Neal Cox, and I am a Certified Life Coach specializing in Wellness and Men’s Empowerment. Both distinctions are certified through Symbiosis Coaching programs and accredited by the Certified Coaches Alliance (CCA). I am an ordained minister through the Universal Life Church, High Priest of the Clan of the Elderwood Grove, and in the Bardic Grade of the internationally known Order of the Bards Ovates and Druids, which is headquartered in Sussex, England. I was an ordained Christian minister, but I renounced my Christian ties and have been following the druidic path since 2000. If you’re curious, I graduated from Ozark Christian College with a Bachelor of Theology. I was valedictorian of my class and majored in Old Testament translation. Additionally, I hold an MBA in Marketing and a Master of Science in Leadership. I am a third-shift operations supervisor at Comprehensive Logistics Inc., in Wentzville, Missouri. My experiences in leadership working for various companies and industries have given me great insights into the needs of others trying to lead and find success.
I grew up in a tiny town in southwestern Kansas. My life experience has been very eclectic; therefore, I have many interests and different career experiences that have provided me with an outlook on life that is very open, and appreciative of others, which offers a unique perspective. I have experienced health issues that helped interest me in pursuing the Wellness approach to my health rather than a traditional medical “treat symptoms” approach.
Life for all of us is filled with ups and downs, which can teach us lessons on living a more fulfilled, healthy, and empowered lifestyle. It is my goal to help you find greater success and opportunities as you strive to achieve your goals. As a Coach, I am not in the business of healing trauma past or present. If I discover that a client needs professional help in this area, I will refer those needing therapy to a qualified therapist. My business is to help you go from where you are today into a more successful, fulfilled, and healthy future. Together we can discuss and evaluate your goals. Then help you reach your goals and achieve more than you could alone. However, I am not the answer man because I believe you already have the answers you need inside you. It is my role to ask questions to help you think and find the answers you need, so call me the question man. I will guide you and be that voice that keeps you thinking to help you solve your issues and find the answers you need.
I am a part of the sex-positive movement, the LGBTQ+ community, the ethical non-monogamy community, which includes polyamory, and the burner (Burning Man) community, as well as many other interests that I advocate.
I offer individual and couples' or partner’s sessions to those who are 25 years old and older. My email is coxnealf@gmail.com and my phone number is 636-233-2784. My Business Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm. If you call during my off hours, please leave a message and I will get back to you the next business day or during business hours. You can pay me with Square, Venmo, or PayPal. I look forward to working with you.
